Silent on Horseback 向著平靜的馬背上

Within certain established social narratives, some children are continually categorized and named. Their restlessness, silence, or absence are read as signs of deviation from order. On the way to the riding field, the boy’s state shifts repeatedly—at times agitated, at times absorbed in the glow of his phone, at times gazing out toward a distant horizon. The distance between him and the world seems to waver, as though perpetually losing its center of gravity. Until the moment he touches the horse. The horse does not speak, yet it responds. Sensitive to emotion, attuned to unease, receptive to slowness. On horseback, as the rhythm of the gait rises and falls, the boy’s body gradually loosens. The change is almost imperceptible—no declaration, no dramatic transformation—only a quiet movement toward himself. I begin to consider whether balance emerges not through correction or discipline, but through the formation of a relationship. Between human and animal, between human and nature, a form of understanding takes place. Social workers will not always be present. The field’s fleeting sense of suspension will not become everyday life. Yet the moments formed through rhythm and breath—touch, hesitation, trust—may persist in ways unseen. This body of work lingers in those instants before change is named. Between before and after the ride, between agitation and calm, and between being observed and becoming aware of oneself. There are no answers there—only the slow possibility of moving toward stillness
