Project:Blank Film

2025

8mm film,19m25s Project: Blank Film is a more intimate body of work. It begins with the sudden death of a close friend and a roll of film he left behind—exposed, yet entirely undeveloped. Four years after the incident, the ongoing process of making and exhibiting becomes a way to respond to and reflect upon death, memory, and emotion: memories that are at times continuous, at times piercingly vivid, at times suspended in a haze. Through this project, I also question time itself—what is lost after death, and what, if anything, remains. Four years after a friend’s sudden death, I reconstructed the traces of the final hours of his life through fieldwork interviews. Using rolls of expired film purchased in the same year, I photographed the landscapes along his route, as if this gesture might allow me to come closer to the last scenes he witnessed.
