Monument for Human Rights on Green Island
Project: The Incompletion of Memory 《
2025
Paper-plate lithography,Print from nine plates,48x32(cm) I repeatedly reproduce the image of the same human rights memorial, allowing it to gradually deteriorate, fracture, and blur through the process of transfer printing. Through this material erosion, I question whether institutionalized memory, in being constantly reproduced and re-presented, risks becoming distorted—eventually reaching a point where its accuracy no longer seems to matter. The work is titled “Green Island” Human Rights Memorial, referencing Green Island Human Rights Memorial Park. Yet the image itself is in fact that of the Jing-Mei Human Rights Memorial Park. Through this deliberate displacement, I further interrogate the symbolic function of the monument and its efficacy: whether its meaning resides in historical specificity, or whether it has already been abstracted into a generalized, interchangeable sign of remembrance.
